Mr. Gunter is currently on the School of Music faculty
at Texas Christian University where he teaches music theory, ear-training,
and composition. He previosuly served as Assistant Director of Bands
at Smithfield Middle School in the Birdville I.S.D. for 8 years where
he taught beginning woodwinds and assisted with the concert bands.
Mr. Gunter has taught private clarinet and saxophone lessons for
the last 16 years in the Birdville, Keller, Arlington, Joshua, and
Aledo school districts as well as the T.C.U. Preparatory Division
and Ridglea Music Company. He has served as adjudicator for all levels
of contests and auditions, including TMEA region auditions for middle
and high school, TMEA All-State Jazz auditions, concerto competitions,
solo contests, and the T.C.U. Jazz Festival. He holds both a Bachelor's
degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Music Theory/Composition
from T.C.U. As an active composer and arranger, Mr. Gunter's list
of performed compositions include works for chamber groups, string
quartets, jazz combos, and popular songs. His list of performed arrangements
include Big-Band instrumentals and vocals, arrangements for jazz
combo, rock band, church orchestra, and marching band. As a professional
musician, Mr. Gunter maintains an active schedule in the DFW area
as a freelance woodwind performer as well as a band leader with his
own variety band, Trey & the Tritones.
